Paula Badosa's bad luck continues, announces US Open withdrawal & ends season

Former world No 2 Paula Badosa has announced that she has decided to withdraw from the US Open and also put a curtain on her 2023 season due to an ongoing back injury. At a WTA 1000 tournament in Rome in May, Badosa suffered a stress fracture in her spine.

Since then, Badosa has been plagued by a back injury. Badosa, 25, came to the US Open hoping she would be able to play but ultimately decided to withdraw. Badosa was drawn to meet Venus Williams in the US Open first round. "Hello everyone, I wanted to update you on my situation with the injury.

After struggling for many months to compete again, I am ending my season. Those of you who know me know how much I like to compete and how difficult it has been to make this decision. We have tried everything together with my team but the pain is not letting me move forward.

Thanks to the people who are still by my side in these hard times. See you next year, stronger than ever," Badosa announced on Instagram.

This year's hasn't been easy for Badosa, especially when it comes to Grand Slams.

At the start of the 2023 season, Badosa picked up a thigh injury and was forced to miss the Australian Open. Then just 10 days before the start of the French Open, Badosa injured her back in Rome and also skipped the second Grand Slam of the season.

After missing the French Open and all tournaments leading up to Wimbledon, Badosa made the call to play at The Championships. At Wimbledon, Badosa won her first-round match before retiring injured in her following match. Badosa also missed all tournaments leading up to the US Open but came to New York with the intention to play. Unfortunately for Badosa, that didn't happen and she will now turn her focus on getting fully healthy for 2024.
